Barbarians at the Gate

Hey y'all,

A little ditty I've been popping together
for some weeks now. It was all there at the first
flush. Less was more in this case.



At the big
table
with the new
old friends.
The day Nick left
for New York
he looked like
CuChulainn in his knitted
beard.
The word barbarian means
"bearded one".
In Ancient Rome
the bearded ones
smashed the skulls
of the clean shaven
beneath the weight of
history. And James
Joyce wore a mustache in less
desperate times.
